Research Associate Professor, Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID)

Lisa B. Elliot, Ph.D., is Research Associate Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID) in Rochester, NY. Her research focuses on educational impacts and user experiences related to communication technologies that are used by deaf and hard of hearing individuals, especially in STEM settings. Technologies of particular interest include speech-to-text captioning, automatic speech recognition, synchronous and asynchronous online teaching and learning experiences, Internet Protocol Captioned Telephone Services (IP-CTS), and online scientific and scholarly communities. Currently, Dr. Elliot is the Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator for two NSF grants. Previously, she has worked as the PI, co-PI, or evaluator for eighteen additional federal and privately-funded grants. As a first-generation college student, Dr. Elliot graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received an M.S. in Education and her Ph.D. in Human Development from the University of Rochester. Dr. Elliot has participated on the ERN advisory board since 2011 and has judged the Science & Math and Social, Behavioral, and Economics presentations since 2012.
